IN EARLY AGE
In ancient Egypt and Rome, upholstery was primarily used for cushioning and supporting seating.
In the Middle Ages, upholsterers used animal skins and nails to attach them to wooden frameworks.
In the 17th century, beds were draped with ornate fabrics like silk and velvet.
Modern upholstery
In the 18th century, springs were introduced to make upholstered pieces more resilient.
In the 19th century, the Industrial Revolution led to the development of machine-woven fabrics, chemical dyes, and printed cotton.
In the 20th century, modern upholstery techniques were developed, including synthetic fibers, plywood, and Naugahyde.
Upholstered beds today
Upholstered beds are a combination of a textile covering and a layer of padding.
They can be made from a variety of materials, including velvet, mohair, cotton, and faux leather.
Upholstered beds can be a stylish and inviting centerpiece for any bedroom.
Benefits of upholstered beds
Upholstered beds can be more comfortable than wooden beds, especially if you like to read or watch TV in bed.
